Dallas Mavericks News Friday Night
The Dallas Mavericks Will Sit Key Players on Friday Night, In the Waning Days of their Playoff Chances.
DALLAS, TX – Despite still having a chance to make the NBA Play-In Tournament, the Dallas Mavericks will rest several players on Friday night.
Kyrie Irving, Josh Green, Tim Hardaway, Maxi Kleber, and Christian Wood will all sit out Friday's game at the American Airlines Center, according to the Mavericks.
Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is still expected to play.
The Mavericks' chances of making the playoffs were harmed on Thursday night when the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Utah Jazz.
Rather than qualify for the playoffs, the Mavericks must win both of their last two games, while the Oklahoma City Thunder have to drop their season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Mavericks would secure the 10th best odds in the NBA Draft Lottery if they lost both of their remaining games.
The Mavericks would be required to deliver their first-round draft pick to the Knicks as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade if it is not among the top ten picks.
There is no certainty that resting their players will result in a loss for the Mavericks. In addition, the Bulls chose to rest their two stars, Zach LaVine and DeMar Derozan, as well as veteran Patrick Beverly.
Friday night's game between the Mavericks and the Bulls begins at 7:30 p.m.
They play the Spurs in their season finale on Sunday.
The Mavericks' best-case scenario is likely to be a position in the NBA's Play-In Tournament.
However, some experts have proposed that All-Stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving sit out the remaining three games to increase the team's chances of landing a top draft pick.
That idea doesn't sit well with Doncic. He stated that he wants to participate if the team has a chance to make the playoffs.
'If there's still a chance, I'll play. So, that's not going to happen anytime soon. We all know there's little chance, but as I said, as long as there's a possibility, I'll play. Obviously, it's disappointing. "From being in the conference finals last year to barely making the Play-In, I think it's been a very disappointing season," he added.
The Mavericks will play Sacramento on Wednesday night before wrapping up the season on Sunday.
To qualify for the Play-In Tournament, they must finish one game ahead of Oklahoma City in the standings.
